This is the same issue that was present in Star Ocean 2, which featured a crazy difficulty jump in the mines, because the minecart gimmick would just 1HKO characters, though it seems like it was only meant to do a little bit of damage. Or you can just spam an attack and prevent them from moving. You can be dead before an enemy knows what hits you. The battle system makes it too easy for you to stop the enemy from attacking, and destroy it in a matter of seconds. This was the perfect opportunity to build up the latter portion of the game into something more substantial, but instead we just got better art. It's very clear that the bio plant was meant to be its own dungeon, but for whatever reason, that didn't happen.
